Kaneda's bike toys and action figures
For those of us who can’t afford a full-sized replica (or don’t have the garage space!), there’s always been a healthy market for Kaneda’s bike collectibles and merchandise. Who hasn't wanted Kaneda's red bike after discovering Akira? Until a project to build the motorcycle becomes a reality, we'll have to settle for detailed miniature figures.
PROJECT BM! Soul of Popynica Kaneda’s Bike (Revival Version)
This iconic 1/6 scale collector’s replica was produced by Bandai and Medicom Toy. Measuring an impressive 50 centimeters in length, the model captures the futuristic, low-slung aesthetic of Shotaro Kaneda’s signature motorcycle with striking accuracy.
It features a heavy-duty construction blending durable ABS and PVC plastics with authentic die-cast metal and metal-plated components, giving it a substantial, premium feel. Underneath its removable exterior cowlings, an intricate framework of mechanical inner workings and engine details is meticulously exposed.
The Bandai replica is celebrated for its interactive electronics. Equipped with built-in LED lighting systems, it illuminates its dashboard, headlights, and iconic wheel rims. Furthermore, an integrated sound unit features authentic effects and dialogue clips directly sourced from the classic film.
McFarlane Toys action figure - Akira Kaneda's bike
McFarlane Toys also produced in 2002 a memorable Kaneda action figure with his bike, which has become a prized collector's item since its release. The sculpting captured the dynamic feel of the character and vehicle perfectly, making it a centerpiece in many collections. The bike is totally styling in bright red paint, and includes all the little stickers Kaneda had on his red ride. Best of all, like all McFarlane figures, we get to see those little details we could never see before.
There were two series of this figure. Series 1 includes Kaneda and his bike as separate items, while Series 2 had a different bike and Kaneda figure. Fans of anime and action figures collectors will appreciate this nostalgic pieces of pop culture history. Size varies from 19 cm to slightly bigger figures.
But that's not the only McFarlane piece featuring the film. They've also released figures of other iconic characters such as Akira himself sitting on his throne, the Joker (the villainous leader of the Clown motorcycle gang), Tetsuo Shima in the scene where his body is mutating due to his uncontrollable powers, and another of Kaneda holding a laser cannon next to his motorcycle. EasternBrick Neo bikes
The EasternBrick Neo Bikes project represents an ambitious bridge between custom brick-building and high-end anime collectibles.
As official brick brands have long bypassed licensed models of the famous red bike, EasternBrick undertook the challenge to engineer a brick-built replica designed specifically for pop-culture enthusiasts and adult builders. At the center of the project—often designated as Prototype K—is an imposing 1:5 scale model engineered from approximately 2,200 individual pieces. Spanning roughly 50 centimeters (nearly 20 inches) in length, the replica captures the aggressive, low-slung recumbent profile that defined the 1988 anime standard.
The design prioritizes structural integrity alongside aesthetic accuracy, replicating the bike's swept-back windshield, elongated front fairings, intricate cockpit dashboard, and signature twin covered wheels. The system relies on a versatile 4,000-piece pool framework that allows builders to construct the Prototype K alongside alternative cyberpunk configurations. To complete the authentic Neo-Tokyo aesthetic, the set is paired with custom decal sticker packs featuring fictional corporate sponsor logos.
