Andrew Lazar’s words have caught the interest of many fans, but we should mention that this production still has no release date and seems to be in the process of taking shape. Also worth pointing out that it has gone through several pauses and directing duties could fall to Taika Waititi, responsible for Jojo Rabbit and Marvel’s latest Thor-centric films. In fact, Waititi himself expressed in 2021 that he was still very interested in directing this new adaptation.
The production also counts Leonardo DiCaprio as a producer, which enhances the strength of the team involved. Despite countless attempts to adapt Akira to the live-action format over the past 25 years, it appears that this version is, in fact, moving forward.
