Adapting a film like Akira to a live-action format is a challenge that Warner Bros. has been trying to accomplish for quite some time. One of the great masterpieces of Japanese animated cinema is a perfect piece for a Hollywood adaptation for obvious reasons, but it it hasn’t been as easy as expected.
According to the media outlet The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has given up on the live-action adaptation of Akira and, after more than two decades trying to make this dream come true, has returned the film’s rights to Kodansha, the original publisher and first owner of the work.
